Bio-Botanica’s founder, Frank D’Amelio Senior (Senior as he was affectionately known) wasn’t just a visionary entrepreneur who recognized the power of plants and the need for an ethical company to create high quality botanical extracts, he was a great human being. Senior passed in 2021 at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy marked by innovation, leadership, a deep commitment to the botanical industry and an indelible mark on all he touched.
Senior was born on June 8, 1940, and from a young age, displayed a keen interest in the healing powers of plants learning from his grandmother, a midwife, who was well versed in the healing powers of plants. As a young man, he would delight his science teachers, by bringing in herbal extracts he made at home for extra credit. He maintained this love of science and plants throughout his young adulthood, working jobs in construction while he put himself through university.
In 1972, Senior and his wife and business partner, Josephine, founded Bio-Botanica, a company that would become synonymous with excellence in the production of botanical extracts. Under Senior’s guidance, the company became a trailblazer in the industry providing high-quality botanical extracts for use in food, beverage, cosmetic, and dietary supplement products. His commitment to innovation and quality set Bio-Botanica apart, earning the trust and respect of clients and colleagues alike. Under his leadership, Bio-Botanica became one of the first to implement modern quality control technology and Current Good Manufacturing Processes well before regulations required it. A proprietary, cold-extraction process, Bio-Chelated®, along with patented and scientifically studied products like, Puresterol® (Pueraria mirifica), made Bio-Botanica a unique and cutting-edge manufacturer in the botanical extract market.
Beyond his professional achievements, Senior was a pillar of strength for his family and a respected figure in the community. Known for his integrity, generosity, and dedication to ethical business practices, he became not only a business leader but a role model for those fortunate enough to work alongside him. Many of those people were family, and many became like family. No matter what the biologic relationship was, Senior shared his wisdom and a wonderful sense of humor with all that helped him build Bio-Botanica.
Senior’s impact on the botanical industry and the lives of those he touched is immeasurable. His legacy will live on through Bio-Botanica, the company he nurtured and developed, as well as through the countless individuals who benefited from his mentorship and guidance. With his son, Frank Junior (Junior as he is affectionately known) now at the helm as CEO, we honor Senior daily by adhering to the values he set for the company of: Customer First; Quality; Integrity; Teamwork; Safety; and Embracing Change.
