About this extract

Bio-Saponins

What Is Bio-Saponins™?

Bio-Saponins™ is a naturally derived foaming and emulsifying agent, supplied as a liquid under Part ID 3155A. Saponins are surface-active compounds that occur naturally in a number of plants — the name comes from the same root as “soap” — and Bio-Saponins™ draws on four roots known for containing them: sarsaparilla, wild yam, quillaja and yucca.

A Natural Alternative to Synthetic Foaming Agents

For brands built on a clean or naturally derived ingredient deck, the surfactant is often the hardest line to defend. Bio-Saponins™ answers that: it is plant-sourced, readily biodegradable, and delivers gentle foaming performance across a range of formats, so a formulator can carry a natural positioning through the part of the formula that usually forces a compromise.

Formulation Applications

Bio-Saponins™ is suited to soaps and shampoos, body washes, lotions and creams, shaving products and natural toothpastes, and it contributes emulsification as well as foam. Foam character depends heavily on the surrounding system — pH, electrolytes and co-surfactants all matter — so we recommend evaluating a sample at several use levels in your own base rather than substituting one-for-one for a synthetic surfactant.

Why Formulators Choose Bio-Botanica

Family-owned since 1972, Bio-Botanica produces Bio-Saponins™ using its proprietary Bio-Chelated® low-heat process at an FDA-inspected cGMP facility in Hauppauge, New York. Every lot passes identity, microbial and heavy-metal testing in our onsite quality lab. Bio-Saponins™ is also available through our private-label and contract-manufacturing programme, where the formula can be adapted to a specific product.

Common Buyer Questions

What is Bio-Saponins™?

Bio-Saponins™ is Bio-Botanica's plant-based foaming and emulsifying agent, supplied as a liquid under Part ID 3155A for personal-care and cosmetic formulations.

What is it made from?

It is sourced from herbs that contain naturally occurring saponins — sarsaparilla root, wild yam root, quillaja root and yucca root. Saponins are naturally surface-active plant compounds, which is what gives the ingredient its foaming behaviour.

What can it be used in?

Soaps and shampoos, body washes, lotions and creams, shaving products and natural toothpastes. It contributes emulsification as well as foam.

Can it replace a synthetic surfactant one-for-one?

Not reliably. Foam character depends on the whole system — pH, electrolytes, co-surfactants and use level all change the result. Treat it as a reformulation rather than a drop-in swap, and evaluate a sample at several use levels in your own base.

Is it biodegradable?

Yes. Bio-Saponins™ is plant-derived and readily biodegradable, which is a large part of why brands specify it in place of a synthetic foaming agent.

Is it suitable for ingestible products?

No. Bio-Saponins™ is supplied for topical personal-care and cosmetic use.

How is it sold, and what about samples and MOQ?

It is sold in bulk to formulators and brands, not as a finished consumer product, in pack sizes of 20 kg and 200 kg. Pricing is provided by formal quote against your chosen pack size and volume. Samples ship with a Spec Sheet/TDS, a representative Certificate of Analysis and a Safety Data Sheet.

Can the formula be customised?

Yes. Bio-Saponins™ is offered through Bio-Botanica's private-label and contract-manufacturing programme, and our team can adapt it to a specific formulation. Talk to a formulator to scope it.

How is it manufactured and tested?

Bio-Saponins™ is manufactured at Bio-Botanica's FDA-inspected cGMP facility in Hauppauge, New York using our proprietary Bio-Chelated® low-heat process. Testing runs from raw-material intake through finished product in our onsite quality lab using HPLC, GC/MS, LC/MS and ICP/MS, covering identity, microbial and heavy-metal testing.
