About this plant part
A resin is not a plant part in the ordinary sense — it is an exudate, the aromatic material a tree produces when its bark is wounded, hardened on contact with air. Myrrh and benzoin are oleo-gum-resins; boswellia is the gum resin sold as Indian frankincense. All three are among the oldest traded botanicals in the world.
Resins are difficult raw materials: they are sticky, brittle, and slow to dissolve. A resin extract is a base your team can dose directly, without the milling and dispersion a raw gum demands.

Formulation applications
Resin extracts come as liquid extracts, tinctures, and glycerin extracts. Boswellia anchors joint and mobility formulas; myrrh is a mainstay of oral-care rinses and gargles; benzoin brings a warm balsamic character to both topical and aromatic products.
For formulators, the value of the extract form is practical: it removes the powder-handling step that keeps raw resin out of most small and pilot-scale runs.
